Being a City of London tour guide is the best job in the world. I can spend my time researching the 2,000 year history of this great city and it’s people and then sharing that knowledge with everyone. Well the best bits anyway.
I was born in London, technically within the sound of Bow Bells though I can’t really claim to be a Cockney. The City’s history has always fascinated me and there is so much to learn about. From the Romans to the railways, Shakespeare to Samuel Pepys, the Great Fire of London, Sir Christopher Wren’s churches, the Blitz of World War 2, and right up to the present day. I’m with Dr Samuel Johnson, who famously said “When a man is tired of London he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.” And that was in 1777. So much more has happened since then.
As well as being a City of London Green Badge Guide, I am a Freeman of the City and a member of The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper makers, one of the City of London Livery
Companies. I’m also a member of the Institute of Tourist Guiding and the City of London Guide Lecturers Association.
